The differences between water-based paint and latex paint

Ingredients: Water-based paint is a paint that uses water as a diluent. The usual ingredients include water, resin, pigments, fillers and additives. The resin types of water-based paint include acrylic resin, alkyd resin, aldol resin, etc. Latex paint uses emulsion liquid colloidal particles as a diluent. The resin in common latex paint is mainly acrylic resin.

Odor and environmental protection: Since the solvent in water-based paint is mainly water, it will not produce irritating odor during the construction process and it is relatively friendly to the human body and the environment. Latex paint contains a small amount of ammonia solvent, so there is a certain pungent smell during the construction process.

Drying time: Generally speaking, water-based paint has a short drying time, usually only a few hours. It can quickly reach the conditions for use or repainting. While the drying time of latex paint is relatively long, and may take 24 hours or more time to dry completely.

Scope of use: Water-based paint is suitable for many different surfaces, such as wood, metal, gypsum board, etc. For example, epoxy paint can be used on the surface of steel structure. Latex paint is mainly suitable for decoration and painting of indoor walls and ceilings.

Durability: Generally speaking, water-based paint has higher weather resistance and abrasion resistance than latex paint. Water-based paint forms a harder film after drying, making it more durable and less susceptible to wear and tear. But latex paint is relatively soft and is prone to fading and wear after a period of use or cleaning.

In short, water-based paint and latex paint are common types of paint, and they differ in composition, odor, drying time, range of use and durability. According to different needs and environmental conditions, we can choose the appropriate coating type to achieve better results and durability.
